Laureate of the Neuron Prize 2021 for promising young scientists in the field of chemistry

Ing. Prokop Hapala, Ph.D.

For clarification and theoretical elaboration of basic principles of the new microscopic method with ultra-high resolution

Prokop Hapala helped theoretically clarify basic principles of ultra-high resolution in atomic for microscopy and scanning tunnelling microscopy. He also participated in the development of methods for the automatic reconstruction of 3D molecular structures from microscopic images using neural networks. These works are recognized by the scientific community as essential for the representation of atoms, bonds and electric fields in individual molecules. Prokop Hapala, a graduate of the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague and a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, has published his work, for example, in the journal Nature and is an active populariser of science in the Czech Republic.
