Since 2003, Professor of parasitology, Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague.

In his research, he studies the biology of insects carrying infectious diseases, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. He teaches medical entomology and has supervised over thirty students, including sixteen Ph.D. candidates. From 2009 to 2014, he was Pro-rector for science and creative activities, Charles University. Currently he serves as the Chair of the Grant Agency, Charles University. He has published one book and over 120 science papers and reviews in international impact journals (as of Nov 1, 2015, approx. 2500 citations on Web of Science, h-index 28).
